Osun Distributes Learning Tools as New School Term Begins

Osun State has rolled out thousands of new teaching materials, textbooks and classroom furniture ahead of the new academic session starting on Monday.

At a ceremony in Osogbo, officials said the move was aimed at easing the pressure on public schools, where pupils are often forced to bring chairs from home due to shortages.

The items include more than 12,000 sets of classroom furniture, 215,000 exercise books, 110 mathematics teaching kits, 49,000 English textbooks, as well as interactive boards and computer systems. Solar panels were also provided to support the electricity supply in rural schools.

To strengthen supervision, the government distributed vehicles and motorcycles for inspectors to monitor schools across local councils.

The initiative follows years of criticism over the state of dilapidated infrastructure and poor learning conditions in Osun schools. Education campaigners say the investment could improve classroom experience but warn that sustained funding, teacher training and maintenance will be crucial.
