Osun Launches Independence Essay Competition

The Osun State Government has announced a call for entries into its Independence Day 2025 Essay Competition for students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

The initiative, organised by the Ministry of Integration and Special Duties, is part of events marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary and aims to encourage intellectual engagement among young people.

Two topics have been set: tertiary students will write on “Nigeria @ 65: Reflecting on the Past, Present, and Shaping the Future”, while secondary school students are expected to address “Nigeria @ 65: Discuss the Educational System in the Past, Present, and the Future.”

Essays must not exceed 300 words for tertiary students and 250 words for secondary students. Entries should be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format with personal details, a Local Government Identification Certificate, and a valid school identity card.

The competition is open only to Osun indigenes, including those studying outside the state. Submissions must be sent by email to osunecs0vcompetition2025@gmail.com no later than Friday, September 19 2025.

Officials said essays would be judged on originality, depth, and creativity, with shortlisted candidates contacted after evaluation.
