The Otemu Educational Foundation has awarded its first set of scholarships to 13 underprivileged but outstanding students in Delta State.
The beneficiaries, selected from 475 applicants after a four-stage screening process, were formally inducted on Thursday at the Western Delta University (WDU), Oghara, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Established in November 2024 by former Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori, the foundation aims to support brilliant students from low-income families with full tuition, accommodation, and a yearly stipend of ₦800,000.
Speaking at the event, Ibori, who chairs the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, said the initiative represents “justice and equity,” not charity. “We are deliberately empowering those who have earned their place but lacked the means to claim it,” he said.
The scholars, enrolled in disciplines including Law, Computer Science, and Environmental Science, will also receive mentorship and personal development training.
Programme Coordinator, Isioghene Eyikimi, described the scholarship as a “lifeline” that challenges the limits of background and opportunity.
The foundation stated that future scholarship cycles would expand to include vocational and technical education, urging corporate partners to support its mission of educational equity throughout Delta State.
