Parents and students have cried out over the recent increase in Post-UTME, acceptance, and clearance fees in Nigerian universities. Many families say the charges are too much, especially as some candidates have to travel long distances for screening. They also complain that the hike has added more financial burden to them at a time when they are already struggling to cope with the harsh economy.
Education stakeholders have also joined the call, asking universities to reduce the Post-UTME fees, cancel acceptance and clearance charges, and consider online screening for candidates. According to them, this will make the process cheaper, safer, and less stressful for families. The issue has made some people question the fairness and accessibility of university admissions in Nigeria, with more people demanding urgent reforms.
