The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has raised concern over a viral video allegedly showing students of Excel College, Ejigbo, Lagos, smoking and consuming alcohol in a dormitory.
In a statement, the National Coordinator, ACP Olabisi Okuwobi, described the incident as part of a broader trend of youth misconduct across schools in Nigeria and beyond.
She warned that the normalisation of smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, and cultism among students threatens the moral fabric of society. “Such behaviours corrupt young minds, disrupt academic focus, and pave the way for grievous crimes and broken futures,” Okuwobi said.
She emphasised that the fight against vices cannot be left to schools alone, urging parents, religious institutions, community leaders, and the broader society to share responsibility in shaping young lives.
POCACOV urged schools to strengthen guidance and counselling services, improve supervision in dormitories, and collaborate with security and community stakeholders.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying awareness campaigns and partnering with government, civil society, and international bodies to create safer learning environments. “Every child lost to vices is a setback to national development. Saving the youth today means saving the future of our nation and Africa,” Okuwobi concluded.
