Police Nab Seven Suspects Over Bauchi Polytechnic Hostel Attack

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects linked to the robbery attack on the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, students’ hostel on August 12.

The midnight raid left several students injured, properties carted away, and academic activities disrupted. The incident also sparked violent student protests demanding improved campus security, which police dispersed with teargas.

In a statement on Friday, Police Spokesman Ahmed Wakil confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects confessed to the crime. According to him, the gang had been terrorising communities in Yelwa, Birshi Gandu, Birshin Fulani, and Gwallameji using weapons and flashlights.

“They unlawfully entered residences, seized valuables, inflicted injuries on resisters, and often fled to neighbouring states to avoid arrest,” Wakil explained.

The police said the suspects, all youths, hail from different areas within Bauchi metropolis, including Lushi, Birshi Gandu, and Birshin Fulani.
