Polytechnic Students Ask Tinubu for Insurance Scheme

The National Association of Polytechnic Students has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to introduce an insurance scheme for students in polytechnics across the nation.

In a statement on Monday, NAPS President Eshiofune Oghayan also called for increased mental health awareness campaigns and enhanced security on campuses.

“The association proposed several initiatives, including a Student Insurance Scheme, mental health campaigns, and campus security advocacy,” the statement said.

The association further restated its call for an end to the dichotomy between holders of the Higher National Diploma and Bachelor of Science degrees.

It called on both the National Assembly and President Tinubu to initiate necessary reforms that would empower polytechnics to award Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Science degrees.

“We urge Mr President and the National Assembly to empower polytechnics to award Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Science in Technology degrees. This reform will resolve the lingering dichotomy between HND and BSc holders,” the statement said.

Furthermore, the polytechnic students’ body declared June 12 as “Adupe Day.”
