The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has urged the Nigerian government to restructure the education sector to meet global standards.
Speaking in Abuja, the centre’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Lucy Abagi, said the current system is failing to provide students with the right platforms to explore their talents and compete internationally. She stressed that Nigerian youths are gifted and hardworking, but need more substantial support from the government beyond “policies on paper.”
Abagi also lamented the rising poverty level, noting that many students struggle to pay fees and even afford daily meals. She called for urgent action to ensure education becomes a real tool for empowerment and national growth.
Her comments came when a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) presented her with an award of excellence for promoting transparency and good governance. NANS leaders said the recognition was proof of PPDC’s role in advancing accountability and justice in Nigeria.
