President Tinubu has just signed and approved a bill sponsored by Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, to open three federal tertiary institutions in Abia and Imo States.
The schools are the Federal College of Education, Bende, Abia State; the Federal University, Okigwe, Imo State; and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Abia State. These institutions will provide quality education and research opportunities while catering to the educational needs of the people in the Southeast region.
The Federal College of Education, Bende, will offer comprehensive courses, including training in technology, research programmes, and instruction in foundational subjects such as applied sciences, commercial arts, humanities, and management. The federal universities will operate on a similar level, providing research opportunities and utilising modern technology to educate students. The government has established a board to coordinate and oversee the progress made throughout the opening process of the institutions.
