The Nasarawa government, alongside the Adolescents Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) group, plans to educate more than 200,000 students on digital literacy.
Aisha Isoga, the Coordinator of the AGILE Project, made this known at the opening of a five-day master’s training programme on digital literacy in Lafia. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Isoga disclosed that digital literacy is key to empowering the girl-child and bringing out her full potential in skill acquisition.
She stated that over 50 master trainers have been carefully selected by the Ministry of Education to take up the training responsibility. “The participants were drawn from the Ministry of Education, who have a fair knowledge of Information and Communication Technology, to equip them with the requisite digital skills”, she said.
Dr John Mamman, the State Commissioner of Police, while giving his speech at the opening ceremony, commemorated the role of digital literacy as an educational tool and a means of empowerment in this ever-changing world.
Earlier this month, the Nasarawa government mandated education for school-age children. The administration further admitted that it will begin to impose fines on parents who err.
