A private secondary school in Kano, Prime College, has challenged what it called an unlawful attempt by the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (PVIB) to halt its operations over a dispute on school fees.
In a statement issued through its solicitors, the school stated that it had been served with an order from a Kano magistrate’s court, directing the reversal of its 2025/26 fee increase and the suspension of operations.
The school explained that the adjustment was necessary due to inflation and the cost of maintaining facilities, adding that flexible payment options were provided. It said more than 90% of parents had complied, while fewer than 20 opposed the increment and petitioned PVIB.
Prime College accused PVIB of acting unfairly, citing a caretaker PTA committee set up by the board, which later supported the new fees. The management alleged that subsequent directives by the board and reports of its closure on local radio misrepresented the court order.
The school stated that it is seeking legal recourse, insisting that suspending the education of children over the fee dispute was unjust.
