Prime College, one of Kano’s top private schools, has rejected a state government order to close its doors over a dispute regarding tuition fees. The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (PVIB) had directed the school to suspend its 2025/26 fee hike and halt operations, following complaints from some parents.
In a statement through its lawyers, Prime College described the move as unlawful, stating that it had only adjusted fees in July due to rising inflation and the need to maintain quality teaching. The school announced that flexible payment options had been introduced, and over 94% of parents had already accepted the new fees, with fewer than 20 parents opposing.
The school accused the PVIB of bias, noting that a parent-teacher committee had earlier voted in favour of the increase. Prime College has assured that it will continue operating, emphasising that no child will be denied an education due to financial challenges.
