The National Library of Nigeria (NLN) has secured full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the Centre for Advanced Library and Information Management (CALIM) to run a diploma programme.
The organisation also matriculated its third set of diploma students and remodelled the Centre with standard hostel accommodation. National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of NLN, Prof Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, disclosed this during an interactive session with staff to mark her fourth anniversary in office.
“These milestones are anchored on our 8-point agenda and aligned with the five strategic objectives of the 2025–2030 new strategic plan. This strategy represents the NLN’s journey in fostering literacy, education, research, cultural preservation, and access to knowledge,” Anunobi said in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, Vershima Orvell-Dio.
Highlighting her achievements in the past four years, she cited the sponsorship of 118 staff for capacity-building programmes, recruitment of 94 new staff, salary improvements for outsourced workers, and welfare support for ailing personnel.
Other milestones include the celebration of NLN’s 60th anniversary, production of 141 certified graduates through the International Digital Literacy Training, and development of the new 2025–2030 strategic plan.
Looking ahead, she announced plans to digitise Nigeria’s cultural and historical heritage, expand digital access, promote literacy programmes, and launch the National Library of Nigeria Fund.
