Ogbeha Honours Idahosa, Urges More Funding for Education

Senator Tunde Ogbeha, former military governor of the defunct Bendel State, has eulogised the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa for his foresight in establishing Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin City.

Speaking during the university’s 21st convocation, where he was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree, Ogbeha described the institution as a testament to Idahosa’s vision, faith, and commitment to excellence.

“For twenty-one years, this university has been fulfilling that prophetic vision, producing graduates who have gone forth to serve Nigeria and the global community with distinction,” he said.

Reflecting on his career in the military, politics, and public service, the retired Brigadier General said true leadership is defined by sacrifice and service to the people. He urged governments at all levels to increase funding for education, particularly universities, and to ensure security, good governance, and food production.

Addressing the graduands, Ogbeha charged them to see education as a tool for positive change. “Challenges will come, but so will opportunities. Believe in yourself, stay curious, and never stop learning,” he said.
