An education expert has urged greater private sector involvement in Nigeria’s education system, warning that government efforts alone cannot address the challenges of out-of-school children and poor learning outcomes.
Leadership consultant Femi Oluyemi said while federal and state initiatives to reform education were commendable, they needed to be supported by private organisations and community-led projects to have a lasting impact. He spoke at the launch of the 2025 holiday coaching organised by the Tola Adebajo Foundation at St James Anglican Primary School, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
The scheme, attended by more than 2,000 pupils, is designed to keep children engaged during the long vacation while helping them consolidate their learning and prepare for the next school term. Oluyemi said individuals and organisations could help bridge gaps by providing resources and support, ensuring that “no child is left behind” in the pursuit of academic excellence.
He added that beyond academics, the programme aimed to instil discipline, teamwork and a sense of purpose among young learners.
