Emmanuel Olugbade Ojo, a professor of comparative politics at the University of Ilorin, has advised the federal government (FG) to strengthen the federal character principle.
Ojo said the principle should “include job opportunities and infrastructure provisions,” as it will improve the country’s spatial economic development.
The professor noted that the Land Use Act should be cancelled to allow communities with mineral resources to benefit from them directly.
According to him, the FG should only receive royalties from these communities, instead of taking over their resources. He added that Nigeria needs a non-centralised federal system.
