Professor Vincent Idemyor of UNIPORT
Professor Vincent Idemyor of the University of Port Harcourt will deliver a keynote lecture at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting on December 8, 2025, in Las Vegas. The event, one of the largest gatherings of healthcare professionals, attracts over 20,000 pharmacists, clinicians, and researchers worldwide.
Titled “Triple Helix Synergy: Implementing Pharmacy’s Response to Climate Health Challenges,” his lecture will focus on how collaboration among universities, industry, and government can strengthen healthcare systems against climate risks.
He will highlight the US healthcare sector’s carbon footprint, with hospitals alone emitting over 80 million tons of CO₂ annually, and the vulnerability of pharmaceutical manufacturing, noting that 62% of US drug production sites from 2019 to 2024 were exposed to extreme weather events.
Idemyor will propose a coordinated strategy through the Triple Helix model: relocating high-risk production sites, diversifying industrial operations, maintaining stockpiles, and integrating climate-adaptive research and training at universities. He will also advocate for climate-resilient infrastructure, telehealth expansion, and decarbonised operations.
“Resilience cannot be purchased through incremental adjustments. We must prepare healthcare systems for 2050, not 1950,” he said.
His lecture positions Nigeria’s academic community and the University of Port Harcourt prominently in global discussions on sustainable healthcare and climate adaptation.
