Prof. Damian Opata, retired Professor of English at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has applauded President Bola Tinubu for declaring a security emergency, calling it a decisive move in the right direction.
The announcement, which includes increased recruitment for the army and police and a review of laws to allow states to establish State Police, was welcomed during an event in Enugu State organised by Progressive Estwhile Ward Executives (PEWE).
Opata also praised the appointment of Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.) as Minister of Defence, emphasising that these steps would strengthen national security.
He commended the administration’s economic measures, including the removal of fuel subsidies, naira unification, new revenue policies, and increased agricultural funding, noting that key food prices, such as rice, beans, corn, and yams, have declined ahead of Christmas.
He urged Nigerians to re-elect Tinubu in 2027 to consolidate achievements and continue driving economic growth. Opata called for improved salaries and allowances for civil servants to boost their purchasing power and quality of life.
At the event, he praised Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State for infrastructure and security improvements. He lauded Nsukka Local Government Chairman, Chief Chinedu Asogwa, for his work on roads and local development, describing both as models for effective governance.
