The College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), will begin postgraduate programmes in September, with over 2,000 applicants screened for admission into PhD courses.
The college, established by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run 19 programmes across six departments and three faculties, including Computing and Telecommunication Technology, Earth and Applied Sciences, and Energy Law and Management Sciences.
PTDF Executive Secretary Ahmed Galadima Aminu said the institution aims to reduce reliance on foreign training by offering world-class courses locally. He noted that PTDF has sponsored more than 15,000 Nigerians for training abroad but plans to redirect more capacity-building efforts to the Kaduna-based facility.
CPESK has partnered with three UK universities—Strathclyde, Robert Gordon and Portsmouth—to deliver split-site programmes allowing students to complete part of their studies overseas.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), which toured the facilities on Tuesday, described the college as a step towards boosting local content and reducing training costs in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
