For many young Nigerians struggling to find work, the lack of practical skills often stands between them and a stable income. However, the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, is seeking to change that through a new national initiative aimed at equipping young people with hands-on technical expertise.
The Institute has begun implementing the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (FGN-TVET) Skills and National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Certification Programme, designed to provide participants with industry-relevant skills and recognised certifications.
Principal and Chief Executive, Engr. Dr Samuel E. Onoji said the programme was launched to address the country’s growing skills gap and reduce unemployment. “We are at a pivotal moment where technical skills are the lifeblood of the oil and gas sector. Our commitment at PTI is to ensure that our graduates are industry-ready,” he said.
Through partnerships with industry players, PTI will train thousands of young Nigerians in areas such as welding, instrumentation, and safety operations. The goal is to make participants employable — not just in the oil and gas industry but across other technical sectors.
For many of the trainees, the programme represents more than certification — it is a chance to build a future through skills that speak louder than degrees.
