Jigawa Governor to Expand Health Care Through Land Donation

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has pledged additional land to expand the Rasheed Shekoni Federal University Teaching Hospital (RSFUTH) in Dutse, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery and create employment opportunities for locals.

The hospital, initially established under the military administration of Colonel Rasheed Shekoni and completed in 2014, was handed over to the federal government in 2019 for upgrading and now serves as a teaching facility for medical students at Federal University Dutse.

During a visit from RSFUTH management, Governor Namadi urged the hospital to prioritise Jigawa indigenes in hiring, highlighting the state’s pool of qualified professionals. He also promised support for renovating dilapidated structures and increasing patient capacity.

Chief Medical Director Dr Salisu Mu’azu welcomed the backing, noting that 870 staff are now on the federal payroll, with over 250 from Jigawa. Health experts say the collaboration could ease pressure on clinics while fostering local employment and skills development.
