The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Youth Province 1, Festac, has launched a back-to-school initiative for more than 2,000 children across its parishes in response to growing concerns over the rising cost of education materials.
The programme, held simultaneously across the province, provided school bags, exercise books, mathematical sets and other supplies to pupils ahead of the new academic session.
Pastor-in-Charge of the province, Oluwagbemileke Adeboye, said the move was aimed at reducing barriers to learning at a time when many families are struggling with economic pressures. “Education is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children because it empowers them to dream bigger and think critically,” he said.
Parents at the distribution exercise described the intervention as timely, noting that the soaring price of basic school items had left many households unable to prepare adequately for resumption.
The church said the support forms part of its wider efforts to promote education and social inclusion in Lagos, pledging to sustain the back-to-school programme as an annual event.
