The House of Representatives has passed a bill establishing a specialised medical college for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) for a second reading.
Sponsored by Babajimi Benson, the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, the college will focus on training medical doctors, specialists, and allied health professionals for the NAF and other uniformed services.
Benson noted that the state of a country’s healthcare system reflects its security posture, emphasising that the Nigerian Army requires reliable medical support for casualty management, preventive medicine, and health protection.
He added that establishing a military medical college is key to building a mission-focused, sustainable cadre of physicians trained to serve in the military.
