Dr Nnaemeka Chukwuone, the Director of the Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre, Environment for Development (REPRC-EfD) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has stated that the media plays a crucial role in preventing environmental damage in society.
Represented by Prof. Innocent Ifelunini, the deputy director, Chukuwone made this statement at a one-day workshop for journalists titled, ‘Effective Communication of Environmental Research to the Public.’
He said, “We consider the media as a vital partner because even when we make giant strides in research work, it will not have much impact on the public without involving the media, which will disseminate the information so that it will go viral.”
Contributing, Prof Luke Anorue, the admin manager of the institute, noted that results from environmental research must be communicated to the public and policymakers in simple terms.
