Indigenes of Rivers State studying at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to introduce bursary support, scholarships, and other incentives to alleviate their financial challenges.
The President of the Rivers Students’ Union, ABU chapter, Akio Kikpoye, made the call during the Association’s Monday meeting.
He explained that the state government’s lack of educational support has made it difficult for many students to cope, leaving self-sponsored students particularly vulnerable.
Kikpoye also highlighted the union’s lack of a Secretariat, which has hindered the organisation of welfare and educational programmes for its members.
He urged Governor Fubara and other prominent Rivers stakeholders to intervene by instituting bursary schemes, scholarship programs, and welfare support to promote academic excellence among Rivers indigenes at ABU.
