Five students of Rivers State University (RSU) abducted from the school’s Satellite Campus in Emohua have been rescued, the Rivers State Police Command confirmed on Thursday.
The students, Prince London, Azubuike Kelechukwu, Elizabeth Aniete, Onyebuchi Precious and London Sampson, were kidnapped on Tuesday, prompting the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, to suspend academic activities on the campus.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the victims were rescued unhurt in Rumuodogo 2 during a coordinated operation involving tactical teams, other security agencies, and local vigilantes. They have since been taken to a hospital for medical checks.
Iringe-Koko added that a full-scale manhunt is underway for the fleeing suspects, identified as cultists.
The police assured the public that heightened security measures remain in place to protect students and ensure the kidnappers are brought to justice.
