Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin has awarded scholarships to 1,052 undergraduate students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), drawn from the 13 local government areas of the Kano North Senatorial District.
The scheme, launched Tuesday at the university’s Convocation Arena, provides each beneficiary with N50,000 to support their studies. The gesture follows a similar initiative on Monday at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, where 1,000 undergraduates under Senator Barau’s scholarship were matriculated.
Comrade Lawal Salisu Gwarzo, President of Kano North Students, BUK Chapter, described the lawmaker as “Mr Education” for his sustained interventions.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, Senator Barau said the scholarship reflects his commitment to education and youth empowerment. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, announced that the initiative will cover all students from Kano North in tertiary institutions across the nation.
Meanwhile, Senator Barau has previously sponsored 70 postgraduate students abroad, 300 doctoral students in Nigeria, and 1,000 undergraduates at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma. He urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by excelling in their studies.
