The Nigerian Senate has dismissed Ms. Sandra Nimi Harry, a staff member of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), for alleged examination malpractice. Harry was found guilty of switching answer sheets for absentee students. The Senate rejected the Ethics Committee’s appeal to convert her dismissal to retirement, citing her 31-year track record of reputable academic service. Senator Garba Maidoki and Senator Oshiomole maintained that Harry must be prosecuted.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, said, “Let this be a warning — you do not spend 30 years serving only to sabotage your institution at the finish line. There is no glory in ending a career with disgrace.”
