Seven pupils have emerged as Enugu Region finalists in the 2025 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee competition and will represent the region at the national grand finale in Lagos later this year.
The regional contest, held on Saturday at the International Conference Centre in Enugu, featured top spellers from the Southeast and South-South regions. Out of over 500 participants, 20 made it to the regional round, with seven: Nelson Ede Chidibem, Praise Ihionu, Emeke Nwokeocha Samuel, Treasure Oyibosu, Mitchel Atanu Ufedo, Munachimso Onyemaechi, and Oyingba Douglas-Naingba, qualifying for the national stage.
MTN’s Regional Operations Manager (East), Callima Inino, praised the pupils’ performance, noting that the initiative promotes literacy, confidence, and ambition among young Nigerians.
He said, “This is the seventh edition, and every year we improve. This is our first regional competition, and next year promises to be even greater.”
The overall winner will receive a ₦5 million education grant, a smartphone, and a laptop. The teacher and school will receive ₦500,000 and ₦10 million in development support, respectively.
MTN’s Senior Manager for Youth Development, Temilolu Salako, urged participants to stay focused and see the competition as a platform to nurture their dreams.
