The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has won one of the five inaugural Going Global Partnerships Awards held last Tuesday in London.
UNIMED emerged overall best in the project category, “Boosting Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education in Nigeria: SDG 4 Quality Education,” executed through its University Co-Creation Hub (U-CoHUB). Partner institutions included Liverpool John Moores University, UK, and Teenpreneurs Educational Foundation, Nigeria.
U-CoHUB equips students with entrepreneurial skills to become job creators. So far, over 1,300 medical science students have benefited from its mentorship and innovation programmes. The initiative is now being replicated in other universities as a sustainable model of innovation.
UNIMED’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, received the award on behalf of the university. The presentation was made by Kate Ewart-Biggs, Deputy Chief Executive, and Maddalaine Ansell, Global Director of Education at the British Council.
Lead researcher Dr Iheanacho Metuonu commended the team’s dedication, saying, “Our commitment and sleepless nights made this success possible.”
Out of more than 100 global entries, only five institutions were recognised for their impact on education and sustainable development.
