Mrs. Keturah Shammah, Executive Director of Girls Education Mission (GEM) International, has revealed that including men can promote girls’ education.
Reports showed that there are five to seven million out-of-school girls in Northern Nigeria.
According to analysts, this is caused by low investment in education, teacher shortage, cultural practices, and inadequate infrastructure. To address these issues, Shammah advised that men, especially leaders, mobilise community resources and implement pro-girl policies.
Seun Onarinde, a Bauchi-based girls’ education advocate, said, “We need more men to champion this movement, and when strong and influential men speak up not just in policy rooms but in their homes and streets, change happens faster.”
