At the School of Special Education (SSPED) in the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, students with disabilities are showing that with strong will and the right help, nothing is impossible.
During a recent visit, blind students like Bolu and Morenike said the school has changed their lives. They no longer feel sorry for themselves or left out; now, they dare to follow their dreams. Thanks to mobility training, they now move around the campus with confidence on their own. Students like Bayo and Abubakar called themselves “the light of the nation,” ready to be examples for others with disabilities. The school teaches with Braille, sign language, and job skills, making it special in sub-Saharan Africa.
Despite their progress, the students continue to request additional support, increased funding, and modern learning tools. Their clear message is: “Disability is not a death sentence. Come and learn from us.”
