Sterling Bank has announced the first 99 beneficiaries of its N2 billion Beyond Education Scholarship Fund, aimed at expanding access to higher education in Nigeria.
The award was unveiled during the Sterling Leadership Series held on September 4 at the Alliance Française de Lagos/Mike Adenuga Centre.
The scholarship, launched earlier this year, provides full tuition support for selected students and is part of the bank’s HEART strategy, which focuses on health, education, agriculture, renewable energy and transportation.
Sterling Bank’s Chief Operating Officer, Temitayo Adegoke, said the initiative reflects the lender’s commitment to utilising education as a tool for social transformation. “We have invested, and will continue to invest, in programmes that extend access to quality education and create pathways for real-world opportunities,” he said.
Managing director and chief executive, Abubakar Suleiman, added that the scheme is designed to nurture talent and equip young Nigerians with opportunities to thrive. “What they need are the right opportunities, and we are creating the platforms, the tools, and the pathways,” he said.
Nominations for the next round of beneficiaries are open via the bank’s website.
