The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Ondo Axis, and the Students’ Union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have met with the Ondo State Commissioner of Police to raise concerns over rising insecurity in the Akungba community.
The meeting focused on addressing recent security incidents, including the case of missing students in the area. NANS JCC Chairman, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua, in a statement issued after the meeting, said the students demanded a thorough investigation into the missing persons’ case and called for the deployment of more competent officers to the AAUA community.
The delegation also requested the replacement of the patrol vehicle at the Akungba Divisional Police Station to enhance mobility and response time. Other proposals presented included the organisation of a security conference at AAUA and the creation of a Police-Student Relations Committee to improve communication and trust between law enforcement and the student population.
Following the meeting, the Commissioner of Police reportedly agreed to redeploy additional officers to the area and replace the patrol vehicle at the divisional station. Students have been advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
