The Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic, Suntai, Dr Amos Danlami Agbu, has lauded Governor Agbu Kefas’ free education policy, describing it as a beacon of hope for underprivileged children and parents who previously could not afford school fees.
Dr Agbu made this remark on Tuesday during the institution’s 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony. He stated that since assuming office, Governor Kefas had demonstrated a clear commitment to genuine service, assuring the people of Taraba that his administration would prioritise development over mismanagement of public funds.
He noted that the governor’s commitment to education was evident in the sweeping reforms introduced in the sector, including the declaration of free education in all public primary and secondary schools, as well as a 50% reduction in tuition fees across higher institutions in the state.
“I urge you, students of this polytechnic, to make the most of this messianic opportunity to build your future,” he said.
Dr Agbu also emphasised that the institution maintains zero tolerance for all forms of misconduct, including cultism, examination malpractice, fighting, rape, indecent dressing, theft, rioting, religious extremism, bullying, terrorism, tribalism, and illegal protests.
He warned that any student found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary measures under the law.
He further reminded the matriculating students that the polytechnic experience goes beyond acquiring academic knowledge, stressing the importance of developing practical skills, strong values, and positive character traits.
“You are here not only to gain academic qualifications but to refine your mindset, develop new skills, and build the character that will make you self-reliant, rather than waiting for white-collar jobs after graduation,” he stated.
