In celebration of Global Money Week 2025, Unity Bank Plc reaffirmed its commitment to promoting financial literacy among Nigerian youth by hosting educational sessions at 13 secondary schools across the country.
The initiative, “Think Before You Follow, Wise Money Tomorrow,” highlights the importance of critical thinking and responsible financial decision-making, especially in an age of social media influences and digital distractions.
During a session at Boys Model Secondary School in Owerri, Imo State, the Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr Ebenezer Kolawole, emphasised the crucial role of early financial education. Represented by Mr William Odigie, the Zonal Head for South South/South East, Kolawole shared valuable insights on developing savings habits, making sound investments, and managing finances responsibly, particularly in the digital space. He urged students to adopt practices that foster financial discipline, noting that “how wisely you manage your money now will determine your financial future.”
Unity Bank facilitators engaged students in interactive discussions, practical exercises, and quizzes throughout the day at each of the 13 participating schools. Outstanding students were recognised and awarded branded gifts, reinforcing the importance of financial literacy through experiential learning.
This outreach complements Unity Bank’s recent launch of the **GenFi** digital banking app—a youth-centric platform designed to teach children and teens about innovative money management through gamification, goal-setting, and parental involvement. The bank’s participation in Global Money Week exemplifies its ongoing commitment to empowering youth and promoting financial inclusion.
Global Money Week, coordinated in Nigeria by the Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee and Junior Achievement Nigeria, aims to cultivate strong financial habits in young people from an early age.
Unity Bank’s initiative underscores its commitment to equipping Nigeria’s youth for a financially independent future.
