Dr Kayode Adewale, a lecturer at Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, has secured a $50,000 international grant in collaboration with Kent State University, Ohio, United States.
The grant will support Transformation 1090, a new initiative designed to enhance teacher training and improve student learning outcomes in Nigeria. The project aims to train at least 1,090 teachers nationwide, potentially impacting thousands of students through evidence-based training and innovative classroom practices.
Dr Adewale, who has previously been named a Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Fellow, a Top 50 Finalist for the Global Teacher Prize, and Ogun State Education Ambassador, developed the project during his Fulbright Fellowship at Kent State under the mentorship of Dr Amanda Johnson.
The initiative builds on his earlier projects, Transformation2060, which introduced mathematics clinics in schools, and Transformation5130, which trained over 5,000 teachers.
Transformation 1090 is a joint effort involving Kent State University, TASUED, the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, as well as several non-governmental and education technology partners. Kent State will contribute expertise in managing large-scale education projects, while TASUED will ensure the programme is adapted to the Nigerian context.
In a statement, TASUED Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwole Banjo, praised the achievement, describing it as a milestone for the university.
“Dr Adewale represents the transformative spirit that TASUED is known for. Transformation1090 is not just a project; it is a pathway to a stronger, more innovative education system,” he said.
The university management noted that the award underscores TASUED’s commitment to producing graduates and scholars driving positive change in the education sector.
