Teach For Nigeria, a non-profit organisation focused on tackling educational inequity, has graduated 398 Fellows and School Leaders, reinforcing its mission to mobilise leaders committed to building a more inclusive education system across the country.
The graduation ceremony, held recently at Greensprings School, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State, marked a significant milestone in the organisation’s ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education for children from underserved communities. The graduating class comprised 311 Fellows from Teach For Nigeria’s seventh cohort and 87 School Leaders from its fourth cohort. These individuals have completed two years of intensive teaching and leadership development, serving in 203 public schools across Ogun State.
According to the organisation, the Fellows collectively reached thousands of pupils through classroom teaching. Also, they implemented 133 community-driven “Be The Change Projects”, which tackled issues ranging from environmental degradation and youth unemployment to educational injustice and peacebuilding. Chief Executive Officer of Teach For Nigeria, Molade Adeniyi, in her address at the ceremony, charged the graduands to extend their leadership impact beyond the classroom. She said, “You have proven yourselves as leaders during your time as Fellows. Now, as alumni, I urge you to shape policies, lead enterprises, and serve communities with the same commitment to equity and justice that has brought you this far.”
The commencement speaker, Dr Ronke Soyombo, who serves as the Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, encouraged the graduands to become active participants in transforming Nigeria’s education sector. She introduced the “4 Cs”: critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration as essential tools for effective leadership in and beyond the education space. “Do not stand aside. Stay involved. Stay connected. You are now part of a growing movement that is reshaping the teaching profession and redefining the future of education in Nigeria,” Dr Soyombo said.
