TETFund Revitalises FUNAAB Zoological Park

FUNAAB Zoo Park welcomed students from various academic institutions

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has supported the revitalisation of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Zoological Park and Museum, marking a renewed commitment to wildlife education, research, and conservation.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Dean of the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Prof. Emmanuel Fakoya, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, commended TETFund’s Institutional-Based Research (IBR) grant and the Directorate of Research, Innovations, and Partnerships (DRIP) for facilitating the project.

Prof. Fakoya also appreciated former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Lateef Sanni, for donating a female horse and funding the construction of a paddock. In his remarks, Prof. Sanni, now Executive Director of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, urged alumni and private sector players to support tertiary institutions, noting that universities cannot bear the burden of development alone.

Director of the Zoological Park, Prof. Sam Olufemi Sam-Wobo, revealed that the Park now houses nearly 90 animal species. He praised TETFund, Prof. Sanni, and the FUNAAB Alumni Association for their sustained support.

Guests later toured the renovated museum and animal enclosures, expressing admiration for the improved facilities and reaffirming their commitment to the Park’s growth.
