Tinubu, Speaker Abbas Honoured for Advancing Education in Zaria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Mr. Abbas Tajudeen, recognized for their outstanding contributions to the development of education in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, have been honoured for their significant contributions to educational development in Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The recognition came from the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Zaria chapter, in partnership with the Local Government Education Authority and the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The awards were part of activities celebrating “Iya Day”—marking Speaker Abbas’s two years in office and his traditional title, Iyan Zazzau.

President Tinubu’s award was received by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, while the Speaker, Abbas, received his award in person. The Speaker expressed gratitude for the honour and acknowledged that many of the educational strides in his constituency would not have been possible without President Tinubu’s backing.

The Minister praised the Speaker’s tireless efforts in improving basic education in Zaria and disclosed plans by his ministry to upgrade selected schools in the area to foster leadership skills among students.

Further demonstrating his commitment to education, Speaker Abbas announced the establishment of an educational fund to support teachers in advancing their studies. He also donated 116 motorcycles to head teachers to ease their mobility and pledged an additional 500 motorcycles for classroom teachers across the constituency. In a bid to revive extracurricular activities and promote young talent, the Speaker revealed plans to build a sports centre and reintroduce inter-house sports competitions in primary and secondary schools.
