Dignitaries, colleagues, family and students gathered at the Government Girls Senior College Complex, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, to celebrate the retirement of Alhaja Motunrayo Risqat Mumuni, Principal of Orile Agege Community Junior High School.
Alhaja Mumuni retired on September 24 after 35 years in the Lagos State teaching service. The ceremony, themed “35 Years of Meritorious Service in Lagos State”, featured prayers, tributes and accolades from friends and associates who described her as a trailblazer in educational leadership.
Born in 1967, she began her career in 1990 as a Master Grade III officer and rose through the ranks to become a principal. She served in several schools, including Jibowu High School, Anwar-ul-Islam Girls’ High School and Sango Senior Secondary School, before her final posting in Orile Agege.
Her dedication earned her multiple commendations, and in 2024, she was named first runner-up for Best Junior School Principal in Lagos State, receiving a car as a gift from the government.
Her husband, veteran journalist Alhaji Mikail Mumuni, described her as a “pillar of support,” while former colleagues and friends praised her calmness, humility and administrative skill.
Expressing gratitude, Alhaja Mumuni thanked Allah, her family and the Lagos State Government for their support throughout her career.
