Truck Crash Kills Three LASUSTECH Students in Ikorodu

Three students of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) have died. In contrast, seven others were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash at Powerline Junction, inward Ikorodu Roundabout, Lagos.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the tragedy occurred after a sand-laden tipper suffered brake failure and rammed into several vehicles, including a Toyota Corolla, an MPV bus and four tricycles.

LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the victims, two males and a female, died instantly, while emergency responders rescued seven others and rushed them to nearby hospitals. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the crash as avoidable, blaming reckless driving, overspeeding, and poor vehicle maintenance for repeated fatalities on Lagos roads.

He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged motorists to ensure regular vehicle checks to prevent similar tragedies.
