United Bank for Africa (UBA) has announced the 2025 edition of its National Essay Competition for secondary school students in Nigeria.
The contest, now in its 15th year, seeks to promote a culture of reading and writing while encouraging critical thinking among young people. This year’s topic is: “Nigeria is characterised by diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions. How can young Nigerians deploy diversity to build a united nation?”
Winners will share a scholarship pool of ₦22.5 million, alongside other prizes. The competition is open to all senior secondary school students in Nigeria, with entries closing on October 12 2025.
The UBA National Essay Competition, first launched in 2011, has since expanded to other African countries where the bank operates. Organisers say it continues to serve as a platform for grooming future leaders and fostering unity among young people.
Application details are available on the official competition portal: jobs.smartyacad.com/uba-national-essay-competition-2025.
