The University of Ibadan (UI) has graduated 5,900 students for the 2024/2025 academic session, with 448 earning First Class honours across various disciplines. Vice Chancellor Prof Kayode Adebowale announced the figures on the first day of the institution’s convocation ceremony in Ibadan.
He commended the graduates for demonstrating the discipline and resilience required to excel, noting that the university had equipped them with the competence and character needed to compete globally. He reaffirmed UI’s standing as Nigeria’s premier university and one of Africa’s most respected institutions.
Adebowale highlighted the strategic importance of the university’s Postgraduate College, reputed as the largest in Africa, and the newly created Faculty of Computing, which he said strengthens UI’s position in digital innovation.
While acknowledging Nigeria’s economic and infrastructural headwinds, he praised the determination of students and academics who continue to push boundaries in research, fellowships, and international competitions.
He added that these achievements prove UI’s commitment to excellence and its relevance in today’s knowledge-driven world.
