Prof Juwon Arotiba, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), UI
The University of Ibadan (UI) integrated health awareness into its 2024 convocation celebrations with a yearly health walk as part of the “Institutional Journey of Health” campaign, aimed at promoting preventive wellness among staff and students.
Road posters displayed messages encouraging exercise, balanced diets, regular medical check-ups, and discouraging self-medication.
Speaking at the flag-off, Vice Chancellor Prof Kayode Adebowale, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Juwon Arotiba, emphasised that exercise and proper nutrition are the most effective tools for long-term health.
Dr Aderonke Ajav, Director of University Health Services, noted the campaign seeks to embed healthy living into campus culture through education, wellness checks, and policy enforcement.
The UHS has expanded its services to include lab tests, dental care, physiotherapy, mental health assessments, and nutritional guidance, all of which are available to both staff and students.
Prof. Adejoke Akinyele, Dean of the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, encouraged the integration of regular physical activity into daily routines. At the same time, UHS Chief Medical Officer Dr Jelili Bello stressed that sustainable health requires a collective effort alongside individual responsibility.
