The Girls’ Education and Skills Partnership (GESP) of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has received strong praise from UNICEF and Generation Unlimited (GenU), with both organisations pledging support to expand the programme to reach one million girls across Nigeria.
A delegation led by GenU’s CEO, Kevin Frey, visited Yabatech to inspect the GESP facilities. Frey called the programme “life-changing,” saying it helps girls gain not just technical skills but also the boldness to become innovators, business owners, and leaders. He said investing in girls is one of the best ways to secure Nigeria’s future.
UNICEF’s Chief Field Officer, Celine Lafoucriere, also praised the programme, pointing to stories from beneficiaries as proof that GESP is changing lives and communities.
The GESP at Yabatech, created to reduce gender gaps in education and jobs, is now receiving global praise as a model for training and empowering young women.
