The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is positioning itself as a hub for innovation with its bold Technology Transfer Ambassador Programme (TTAP) Bootcamp, held July 22 and 24 at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre.
The two-day training, spearheaded by the Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO), was designed to groom ambassadors who will scout, protect, and commercialise groundbreaking ideas from Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Experts from academia and industry led sessions on innovation scouting, intellectual property, design thinking, and commercialisation strategy. Dr. Abiodun Gbenga-Ilori, Project Director for Innovation-to-Market (I2M), said TTAP aims to “embed a culture of sustainable technology transfer and build commercialisation pathways.”
Over 30 ambassadors participated in person, while delegates from 13 universities, including UI, UNN, OAU, and BUK, joined virtually. Key speakers included Mr. Ayo Emakhiome of Coinbox Ltd., IP specialist Mrs. Angela Itegboje, and Edward Esene of Plus Incubation Hub. Closing the bootcamp, UNILAG Deputy VC (Development Services) Prof. Afolabi Lesi hailed the initiative as “a game-changer that will shape not just the university but the nation’s innovation ecosystem.” Supported by IREX’s Technology Transfer Reform Grant, TTAP signals UNILAG’s intent to lead Nigeria’s push into market-ready research.
