The University of Lagos (UNILAG) celebrated Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri on November 5, 2025, with a landmark triple event: the unveiling of a book on his leadership, the institution of a Professorial Chair in Leadership and Good Governance, and a public lecture.
The ceremony, held at Tayo Aderinokun Hall, was organised by UNILAG Consultancy Services Limited (UNILAG Consult Ltd).
The new book, “Leadership Chronicle of Governor Douye Diri,” documents the governor’s biography, leadership philosophy, and achievements, reviewed by veteran journalist Babajide Kolade-Otitoju. The Professorial Chair aims to advance scholarship in governance and nurture ethical, visionary leaders.
The event drew top dignitaries, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Bayelsa political figures such as Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and Ambassador Godknows Igali.
In their addresses, speakers praised Governor Diri for his integrity, inclusiveness, and transformative leadership, emphasising the crucial role of education and the importance of collaboration between the government and academia.
Governor Diri expressed gratitude, dedicating the honours to the people of Bayelsa, and reiterated his commitment to human capital development and sustainable governance.
