UNILAG Student Showcases Sustainable Construction

A University of Lagos (UNILAG) student, Khalid Oyenuga, garnered acclaim at the Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2025, Africa’s premier construction exhibition, held at the Landmark Centre in Lagos from September 23 to 25.

Oyenuga, from the Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, delivered a presentation titled “Sustainable Materials – Innovations for the Nigerian Market” to over 145 exhibitors from more than 20 countries. He discussed sustainable building practices, eco-friendly materials, and the use of digital tools, such as BIM and generative design, to enhance low-carbon construction in Nigeria.

The presentation sparked discussions on practical strategies to embed sustainability in the country’s construction industry. Oyenuga, Vice President of the National Association of Building Students (NAOBS) at UNILAG and a student member of the Chartered Institute of Building, highlighted the university’s commitment to producing graduates capable of contributing to global industry discourse.
