Supo Shadiya, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Ilesa Advancement Centre (UNILESA), has highlighted the institution’s role in strengthening Osun State’s education sector.
He spoke at the 50th edition of the Frontliners programme, organised by the League of Veteran Journalists, in Osogbo.
Shadiya, a geophysicist and oil expert, said UNILESA, established and upgraded under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, addresses key challenges facing the University.
While student accommodation remains important, he stressed that infrastructure and building equipment are higher priorities. The board recently launched an accommodation project with a budget of N50 million, encouraging further investment in campus facilities.
He advised students to avoid intermediaries when seeking housing and to engage directly with property owners to prevent exploitation. Shadiya also called on stakeholders to support the University’s development by investing in learning environments.
The Osun chairman of the League of Veteran Journalists, Adetoyesa Shittu-Alamu, commended Shadiya for sharing insights on UNILESA’s impact, noting that his contributions earned him induction into the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists Hall of Fame in the state.
